Bitcoin market cycle indicators

Four measures that move on four different clocks โ€” sentiment in days, stablecoin supply in months, the Mayer Multiple in quarters, the halving clock in years. Each is shown against its own history, so you can see how unusual today actually is.

A single 0โ€“100 reading built from volatility, trading momentum, social activity and dominance. It is the fastest thing on this page and the noisiest: it can swing 20 points in a week without anything structural changing.

How to read it. Extremes carry more information than the middle. Readings above 75 or below 25 have historically clustered near turning points, but they can also sit there for weeks โ€” the index tells you how the crowd feels, not how long it will keep feeling that way.

Total USD stablecoin supply

$308.8B

The combined circulating value of every dollar-pegged token. Think of it as the dry powder parked on-chain: it has to be minted before it can buy anything, and it rarely leaves in a hurry.

How to read it. Direction beats level. Supply expanding while prices are flat means capital is arriving but has not been deployed; supply contracting means it is leaving the system entirely, which is a slower and more stubborn signal than any sentiment gauge. Related: the stablecoin value chain.

Source: DefiLlama, USD-pegged stablecoins only, de-duplicated across chains. Every dollar-pegged issuer is included, not just the largest few โ€” euro- and gold-pegged tokens are excluded. Charts that track only the top handful of issuers will show a lower total.

Mayer Multiple

Price divided by its 200-day moving average. One number for a question that usually takes a paragraph: is bitcoin trading above or below its own long-run trend, and by how much?

How to read it โ€” and what it is not. Above 1.0 means price sits above its own 200-day average; below 1.0 means under it. The useful part is the distribution: readings above 2.0 have historically been rare. The limitation is worth stating plainly โ€” this compares price to price, so it adds no information from outside the chart. It is a normaliser, not a new data source, and it is the least independent of the four measures here.

Calculated here from the daily closes and 200-day average we already collect. No third-party data involved.

Indicator 04 · Elapsed time · Daily

Days since the last halving

Day 859
next halving est. Apr 2028

Bitcoin's issuance rate halves at fixed block intervals, which gives the market its only clock that is not a matter of opinion. The next one lands at block 1,050,000. Each cycle below starts at 1.0ร— on its own halving day, so eras with different price levels share one axis. Completed cycles run their full length; the current cycle stops at today, and the shaded region is time it has not lived through yet. Cycles without a matching close price in our daily series (which begins in August 2017) are left out rather than estimated.

How to read it โ€” and how not to. A completed cycle is an example, not a template โ€” its curve to the right of today is a different cycle's finished history, plotted on the same clock, not a path the current cycle is following. The timeline below adds what the curves cannot: completed cycles peaked at different day counts each time (widening, not repeating), and the market that traded through earlier halvings had a fraction of today's liquidity, ETFs, or institutional custody. The shaded area stays empty on purpose.

Halving dates and cycle high/low dates are historical record. Elapsed days computed from today's date. Block height: mempool.space / blockstream.info.

FAQ

Do these four indicators ever agree?

Rarely, and that is the point of putting them on one page. Sentiment moves in days, stablecoin supply in months, the Mayer Multiple in quarters, and the halving clock in years. When a fast measure and a slow one point the same way, the agreement is information. When they split, so is the split.

Why is the Fear & Greed Index not calculated here?

It is published by Alternative.me, which combines volatility, momentum, social activity and dominance into one 0โ€“100 number. We store the daily reading and chart it. The other three are either raw supply data or our own arithmetic on prices we already collect.

Does the halving chart predict the next cycle high?

No, and it is built so that it cannot. There is no price axis, and the current row stops at today rather than extending forward. It shows how many days have passed since the last halving and where the highs and lows fell in three completed cycles. Three is not a sample you can forecast from.

What does the percentile on each card mean?

It is the share of that indicator's own recorded history sitting below today's value. A 71st percentile Mayer Multiple means roughly seven in ten days on record were lower. It describes position in a distribution, nothing more.

Not investment advice. Everything on this page is market data and educational commentary. Nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell any asset, and no outcome is promised or implied. Indicators are mechanical, historical comparisons are backward-looking, and all four can be wrong at the same time. Do your own research.
